This is an article where I will be reviewing how to make money with Livingston Research from my personal experience. I have been on the platform for enough time that allows me to make a review.
Livingston Research is a platform that provides personal education support enabled by technology to every student. I have been on this journey of making money online for the past two years now. And I have come across A LOT of ways that people are able to do it. And in this review Livingston Research is one that I can personally vouch for. I have reviewed more ways to make money from teaching English online here nolitaspace.
Finding out about Livingston Research
I found out about Livingston Research via YouTube and obviously I had to do my own research about their platform, and that is what I want to share with you here. First of all, you will be working as a freelancer and you will be responsible for your own taxes. They pay with Payoneer which is a financial services company that provides online money transfers.
You will earn according to how much you have worked. And they pay in USD. Earning in USD is always a good idea especially if you are not in the US because the exchange rate to your country’s currency will always give you a boost, which means more money! At this moment 1 US dollar is equal to 18 South African Rands. That’s major bag.
How to start
To begin with Livingston Research you need to go to their website and apply to ‘become a freelancer’. You will then follow the prompts. During the application stage, you need to choose a specialty. I chose English because I have been teaching English online. Don’t worry, my teaching English online ended up having nothing to do with this. I told a friend about this and she chose Mathematics as her specialty. After choosing, they give you a task to do about the specialty you chose and you need to pass it.
With English, they gave me a topic and asked that I write a two-page essay about it. It was due in 48 hours. I submitted the essay and I’ve since been waiting for my results. With maths, my friend said they gave her a set of multiple-choice questions that she had to do. They also need to know about the subjects you did at varsity. And just for reference, I applied in December. They only got back to me in April. So you need to have a little patience if you want to make money online with them.
One thing that is worth sharing about them is that they have peak seasons and dry seasons, which I will get into in a bit. During peak season you will get a lot of tasks to work on and get paid for them. And no, you don’t only get the tasks of your specialty; you get access to all of the tasks that are available on the platform.
When you click on a task, they give you six minutes to go through it and see if you will be able to do it. If you think you can do it then you secure the task. You need to be mindful of the due dates because they will not tolerate late submissions. Yes, they are a little strict on their platform but it’s for a good course.
You don’t speak directly to the client as a freelancer
When you accept a task, you will speak with the service providers of Livingston Research about anything related to your task. Be it reminding you of the due dates, any additional information from the client or about your revisions etc. After submission of your work to the platform, the client will receive it on their end and if they don’t like the work that you did, they will return it as what is called a ‘Revision’.
That is basically when you have to fix the mistakes you’ve made on the task. The revision comes with a comment from the client. Remember you don’t contact the client directly. And it’s worth mentioning that sometimes the client’s comments can be quite condescending. Just a heads-up.
Livingston Research has zero tolerance for plagiarism. I have learnt that the hard way. If they find any plagiarism in your work, they will penalise you and that affects your profile negatively. Before sending the work off to the client, they do an extensive plagiarism check, and if your work is free from plagiarism, then you are good to go. But if they find any plagiarism, they return your work as a revision and you have to fix it.
I stumbled upon a gem of an app called Spin-bot. This tool ‘spins’ your entire article and gives it different words and forms so it doesn’t display any plagiarism; especially if you did your research from the internet where everything can be picked as being plagiarized. It helped make my work very simple and keep my profile clean. This is another pro-tip.
When it is dry season, you will barely get any tasks. The only tasks available will be for difficult subjects like Stats, Mechanical engineering and others that aren’t as easy and straightforward as the ones you’d get if it was peak season. My advice will be to stay away from the tasks that you are not familiar with. No matter how desperate you can get, just remain patient until it is peak season again when you can do more tasks.
Are you ready for the plot twist? I am not with Livingston Research anymore because (drum roll please!!!!) I got kicked out! That took a turn, didn’t it? Well, I got desperate during the dry season and I accepted a task that I didn’t understand. I tried my best to do the work but the client returned my work as revision stating “Dear Freelancer, THIS IS NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR. FIX IT PLEASE!’
Long story short, I was not able to fix it, so I got penalized. I received an email about a week later stating that my account was permanently removed from the platform and that I shouldn’t try and fix my case. Sad, but I take full responsibility for my part in this.
But I still believe this is a legit way to make some dollars on the side. I don’t recommend you do this full-time without any other source of income because during dry seasons you may find yourself taking on tasks that you don’t understand and hurting your chances of being on their platform for longer. If you are still interested, please apply here Livingston Research.
We need to set aside the mentality that making money online is a way to get rich quickly. Well, let me say others are luckier than the rest. And I fall under ‘’the rest’’. It’s not an easy way to get to the top. The sooner I got that mindset going, the faster I was able to work very hard at what I do with the jobs I find online.
‘’Don’t sleep on the Internet’’ is my favorite quote. Because most of us are on the internet to pass time or we are addicted to scrolling through Facebook or Instagram or whichever of the many Apps that are available. And we do this just for fun, while there are people on the very same internet who are making a killing! I don’t mean that literally. I mean they are making a lot of money. So that got me thinking that I don’t just want to be on the internet for memes and funny posts, I also want in on making the money.
You can do it too!
