There’s no doubt you can earn a lot through various platforms that I’m about to share, but it’s worth noting that the industry has become more saturated over the years. How to Get Started

Before diving in, you’ll need a TEFL certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). Some platforms don’t require it, but having one gives you a competitive edge. There are free options, but I got mine at a discount from Daddy’s Deals, which is another route you can explore. Keep in mind that some platforms may also require a Bachelor’s degree, teaching qualifications, or experience, but don’t let that discourage you—many don’t!

Preply

Preply is beginner-friendly, requiring no degree or teaching experience. As long as you have good English skills, a laptop, and a stable internet connection, you’re good to go. The biggest advantage? You set your own rates. But here’s the catch—when I raised my rates, I stopped getting bookings. Plus, your first class with a student is unpaid, which can be frustrating. That said, Preply doesn’t discriminate much, so give it a try here.

iTalki

Many rave about iTalki, but my experience wasn’t great. I’ve applied over 20 times and never got accepted, so I can’t personally share its pros and cons. However, they do allow reapplications immediately, and you need a TEFL and a Bachelor’s degree to be considered a professional teacher. Apply at iTalki.

BlingABC

BlingABC offers the best pay rates I’ve seen, but patience is key. My application took 12 months to process, and the interview process spanned two months. Their base rate is $7.50 for a 30-minute class, but even after being assigned 52 classes, they canceled them with no clear explanation. If you’ve got time to spare and meet their requirements (TEFL + Bachelor’s degree), apply here.

Cambly

Cambly is popular because it doesn’t require a degree or experience—just native English fluency. With a base rate of $10 per hour, it’s worth applying. However, despite applying multiple times through different email addresses, I never got a response. It seems many others have had similar experiences. Try your luck at Cambly.

OETJobs

This site lists numerous platforms for teaching English, both online and abroad. It’s a great resource if you’re interested in exploring a wider range of opportunities. Check it out here.
